Supported Independent Living (SIL) is for people who need a lot of help at home, all day and night. At PALS, we want to help you live as independently as possible while getting the support you need. Read our handy guide for everything you need to know about SIL.
What Is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
SIL means you get help with daily tasks every day, including overnight. It is for people who want to live on their own or with others but need support to do this safely.
Your NDIS support coordinator can help you
If you have SIL funding from the NDIS, you will have a support coordinator. They will:
Help you find the right SIL provider
Work with you to make a care plan that fits your needs
Help you manage your support services
Who can use SIL?
SIL is for people who:
Are 18 years or older.
Need help with daily tasks like cooking, cleaning, or personal care.
Want to live independently but need support.
Have or can apply for NDIS funding for SIL.
Want to live in a shared home with other NDIS participants.
How to apply for SIL funding
To get SIL funding, the NDIS will look at:
Your age (you must be 18 or older).
Where you live now and your goals for living in the future.
How much support you need every day (more than 8 hours a day and some support overnight).
Your skills to live independently and how you can improve them.
Other options that might suit you better.
Reports from health professionals that say SIL is the best option for you.
For more information, visit the NDIS website or contact the NDIS for help.
